White Tooth Coloured Fillings

Dental fillings are a common treatment of general dentistry at our Woden practice. Most of us will encounter dental fillings at some point during our lives. By repairing cavities and decay in our teeth, they put a stop to further tooth problems developing. What’s more, they are a relatively quick procedure. When you come in for a white tooth filling, the decayed part of your tooth will be removed, and the white filling will be placed on the same day.

Silver amalgam fillings used to be commonplace amongst dental practices, at Acacia dental, we no longer use the material. Amalgam Fillings was a commonly used filling that had been used for over 150 years. It is a mixture of mercury with at least one other metal. While Amalgam has some advantages over other restorative material, such as low cost, strength, durability, and bacteriostatic effects.

Dr. Yalamanchili decided to switch over to a different material. We now use composite resin for all of our fillings, thanks to the various advantages it offers. There are circumstances in which composite (white fillings) serves better than amalgam; when amalgam is not indicated, or when a more conservative preparation would be beneficial, composite is the recommended restorative material. These situations would include small occlusal restorations, in which amalgam would require the removal of a more sound tooth structure, as well as in “enamel sites beyond the height of contour.”
