Invisalign Canberra
Unaligned or crooked teeth are surprisingly common. As are the infamous train track kids braces that can be fitted to correct them. Invisalign clear aligners are an innovative orthodontic treatment, which straightens teeth without using metal braces or wires.
As a leading treatment at our dental practice in Woden, the Invisalign clear aligners offer a comfortable, removable and almost invisible alternative to traditional braces. The near-invisible removable aligners are custom made using SmartTrack technology, allowing them to change your appearance drastically, without impacting on your life.
How do Invisalign Clear Aligners Work?
Invisalign clear aligners are a set of clear plastic aligners made from a patent material called SmartTrack. They are customised specifically for each patient to deliver a constant force when moving teeth.
We use Invisalign as it is the most advanced aligner on the market with many years of research behind it. The success of Invisalign comes down to SmartTrack technology.
3D printers make the Aligners and must be replaced every few weeks to allow for constant small adjustments to be achieved. The SmartTrack material is highly elastic and flexible. These features are what make the aligner adapt better to the teeth and provide a more comfortable fit.
Meanwhile, the Invisalign technology allows your dentist to plan every step of your treatment. The incredibly sophisticated Clincheck software ensures that every tooth is moving in precisely the right way. The technology enables the dentist to confidently predict each tooth movement so that your new smile remains on track.
Who is Invisalign Suitable For?
There are lots of reasons why teeth become misaligned. Lack of oral care, childhood habits or genetics are a few examples. Having crooked teeth, however, can have a significant impact on our health and wellbeing. Not having the smile we want can also impact our confidence and self-esteem.
Invisalign should be a consideration for anyone dissatisfied with the alignment of their teeth. A consultation at our dental practice in Woden will help you to understand your options. You will discover whether Invisalign is the perfect solution for you.
While Invisalign is a leading alternative to traditional braces. There are a few considerations that we will need to talk through with you:
- Your commitment: as Invisalign aligners are removable, for them to work patients need to be committed to keeping them in at all times, other than for eating or cleaning teeth.
- Your lifestyle: you will need to remove the aligners before eating and drinking. Then clean your teeth before placing them back to avoid staining. You may need to consider reducing the amount of coffee and red wine you consume. Smoking is also not recommended, as it can create a problem with staining.
- Your circumstances: a consultation with Acacia dental will determine the best treatment for your circumstances. In some instances, Invisalign may not be the best solution. An example would be when an entire arch needs widening.
The Invisalign Treatment Process
It is unrealistic to achieve your perfect smile with Invisalign overnight, but the process is simple. The treatment is comfortable, and the results are undeniable. The first step is to book in with us for a free consultation at our dental practice in Woden. We carry out a smile assessment to review your dental history and carry out an examination of your teeth. We want to find out what you would like to achieve. Then we establish whether Invisalign is the best treatment for you. We also take some time to talk through any questions you may have.
If we decide that Invisalign will best suit your needs, our dentist will create your orthodontic treatment plan. Then get to work on making your customised aligners.
There are three key stages to your Invisalign treatment:
1. Your Treatment Plan
Your doctor will perform a 3D digital scan which will give you a high-resolution, interactive image of your teeth. The Invisalign scanner is incredibly accurate and incorporates an outcome stimulator. What this means is that you will be able to visualise your treatment outcome.
Your dentist uses these scans to create a treatment plan. The treatment plan helps to map out the minute movements of your teeth over the course of your treatment. The 3D scan and treatment plan are used to design the aligner. Then, with a 3D printer, each one is custom made specifically for you.
2. Your Aligners
You will receive a set of clear aligners. You must wear each aligner for two weeks. After which, you graduate to the next aligner. While the aligners are removable, you will need to ensure that you have them in for the vast majority of the time.
You will also have to maintain excellent oral health to keep your teeth and your aligners stain-free. Other than removing the aligners to eat and drink, you can continue life as usual without drawing any unwanted attention. You will need to come back to the dental practice for regular scans every four to six weeks. Regular checkups ensure that everything with the treatment is on track. It is essential that your dentist can make sure that each tooth movement correlates with your treatment plan. The entire process takes between six to eighteen months, depending on your individual needs.
3. Your Ongoing Care
Once your treatment is complete, and you’ve achieved the smile you were hoping for, you’ll need to take care of your teeth. As is the case with all braces, once your treatment has finished, your teeth will be tempted to move back to their original position. To stop this from happening we will carry out a final scan of your teeth. We will design a retainer that fits perfectly to your new tooth morphology. You will wear the retainer all the time initially and eventually reduce to only night times. Other than wearing your retainer to bed and keeping up with your oral hygiene, your treatment should be complete.
Why Choose Invisalign?
Invisalign is an incredibly popular treatment in Canberra for correcting misaligned teeth. It offers patients some serious benefits in comparison to conventional braces:
- Invisible: as the name suggests, Invisalign clear aligners are near-invisible. It means that the entire process of straightening your teeth will have less of a social impact on your life. The aligners blend in with your teeth, meaning that your treatment will be as anonymous as you want it to be.
- Comfortable: Invisalign’s SmartTrack material has been specially created to be flexible, made from the highest quality polymers. Wearing the aligners is much gentler on your cheeks and gums than metal braces.
- Removable: while you should keep them in as much as possible. You can remove your aligners to eat, drink and clean your teeth. You will have much more freedom to eat normally than with traditional braces. Plus, you will be able to floss and clean your teeth properly during the straightening process.
